Workplace Health and Safety Culture Seminar was given to the students of İzmir Atatürk Organized Industrial Zone Nedim Uysal Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School students on the 8th, 9th and 10th of April 2019 by our Labor and Social Security Training Specialist Esra Karaman. A total of 416 students and 35 teachers attended our seminars which were given to 3 different groups of participants in 3 hour long sessions.
The need for safety for all living beings and the importance of this need among other needs was highlighted in the seminar. It was mentioned that “labor” is a fundamental right and duty of citizenship and general information was provided about the legal regulations made in this area.
It was underlined that the concept of “labor” wasn’t only a bread-winning element but it was also indispensable for the advancement of a society socially and economically and for the empowerment of individuals and families, and that such an advancement was only possible with “deeds befitting humanity”. It was specified that a job had to provide a fair wage, social security for the individual and their family, personal development opportunities and freedom of expression, and that it had to be a job where men and women benefited from equal opportunities for the job to be considered befitting the honor of humanity. The concept of workplace health and safety was taken into consideration from the viewpoint of a job being befitting humanity. Afterwards, the health and safety hazards people can encounter while working and the protective measures that have been developed from the past to present were explored in discussion.
